The council wants to push consumption of local products, services, and restaurants, as these vouchers can be used in over 1,700 establishments in Barcelona.

Bonus Consum coupons can be downloaded via BCNMarket website but despite being able to get up to three at a time, users will only be allowed to exchange one voucher per purchase.

Barcelona mayor urged to get rid of Amazon

In November 2020, ahead of the Christmas season, the mayor of Barcelona, Ada Colau, urged Barcelona residents not to buy on Amazon for the Christmas period, and instead to think about local, independent shops

Neighbourhood and local commerce suffered drastic consequences due to the Covid-19 induced economic crisis.

In addition, Colau echoed the words of the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo by saying that Amazon "does not pay local taxes or bring wealth."
