Tired of always eating the same things? Then you should keep an eye on what’s going on at the Alimentaria food and hospitality fair.

Alimentaria offers an experience out of the ordinary. With 3,300 exhibiting companies, including 1,200 from abroad, this year marks its largest international presence to date, with over 65 countries represented, led by Spain, Italy, Turkey, China, Hong Kong, and Poland.

The food and hospitality conference, taking place at Fira Barcelona Gran Via from March 23-26, is expected to attract over 110,000 professionals, making it larger than the Mobile World Congress.

Additionally, around 2,700 key buyers from over 100 countries are invited, such as the United States, China, and Mexico.

With over 350 presentations and live cooking demonstrations on trends and innovations, and more than 700 invited food-trend experts, you can expect to discover foods and snacks you have never heard of before.

Snail caviar

Strange or delicious? Snail caviar is considered a delicacy for some, and is sometimes presented as a more sustainable alternative to traditional caviar from the sea.

The Spanish company Caragols de Gredos has brought this concept to life with locally produced snail caviar, now being showcased at the Alimentaria fair.

Ana from Caragols de Gredos explains the caviar as something "different and exclusive."

Golden sausage

One of the highlights of this year's edition of the conference is a 'foie gras' sausage with a 24-carat gold coating, made and produced in the Girona region by the company Font-Sans, located north-east of Barcelona.

The golden sausage has already gone on sale in various places, such as France and Dubai.

"It is a special product, for special occasions," David Pérez, Managing Director, explains.

Crispy Rocks ColaCao

Another Catalan innovation is a twist to the popular chocolate milk, 'ColaCao', now available in a new edition including small chocolate and vanilla biscuits, or 'Crispy Rocks.'

Pizza vending machine

The Málaga-based company 'Neotechfood' introduced 'Pizzadoor,' an automated pizza vending machine with a capacity of 140 pizzas, designed to deliver freshly prepared pizzas in just minutes.

Brewing byproduct snack

Have you ever heard of ’bagasse’? At the fair, Fills de la Rivera are presenting 'bagazitos,' a baked snack that uses bagasse, a byproduct of beer-brewing process, as a source of fiber and protein for the development of the crispy snack.

Chocolate-coated crisps

Spanish crisps brand, 'Alfonso Torres,' presents 'Xocoxips' to mark its 50th anniversary with a product that combines savory and sweet: chocolate-coated crisps.

Instant scrambled eggs

Instant scrambled eggs come in a range of flavours and require only water and a microwave to prepare. They are marketed as a healthy, convenient meal, high in protein and filling, thanks to the satiating effect of eggs. The product is presented by Álvarez Camacho.

Egg white crisps

Patatas Torres presents 'Ouegg,' the world's first egg crisps made with just one ingredient: egg white.

"They taste like egg because they are made only with egg whites, but we have different flavours too. We have egg whites with chocolate, egg whites with cheese, and with honey too," Ariadna from Patatas Torres told Catalan News.
