23 coronavirus deaths in Catalonia in last 24 hours

Number of fatalities more than doubles in a single day bringing total to 41

23 new deaths due to coronavirus have been recorded in Catalonia in the last 24 hours. This more than doubles the amount of fatalities, to a total of 41.

The Catalan ministry of health announced the latest figures on Tuesday evening.

There have also been 472 new positive cases of covid-19 diagnosed, a similar amount to the 491 cases announced yesterday. It brings the total number of infected in Catalonia to 1,866.

65 people are in a serious condition, while 98 of the total number of people infected are health professionals.

Regarding the situation in Igualada, authorities confirmed there have been 88 coronavirus cases since the outbreak was declared. Six people there are seriously ill and 14 people who all had previous conditions have died.

Of the total number of cases in Igualada, 48 are healthcare professionals.
