Today is a big day for Catalonia, as over 5.5 million voters are called to cast their ballots at one of 8,373 polling stations in 2,712 polling places, in the Spanish general election.

Voters in Catalonia will select 48 of the the 350 representatives in the Spanish Congress, as well as 16 senators, four for each of the four Catalan provinces.

The actual number of people in Catalonia with the right to vote in the election comes to 5,558,095, some 68,319 more than in the last general election in 2016.

Polling places open for voting at 9am, and are due to close at 8pm, although if people remain in the polling place at that time, it can stay open until their ballot has been cast.
