On Saturday, 85% of the Partit Demòcrata Europeu Català's National Council voted in favor of joining former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont's party under his leadership.

The party, which is the is the successor to the CDC party that ruled Catalonia for over 20 years, announced its intentions to become a part of pro-independence JxCat on Friday, but also said that the idea would first be put before the party membership for ratification at its National Council the following day.

Saturday morning's debate saw a few critics complain of insufficient time to fully consider the move as well as an unsuccessful motion to postpone the vote.

A total of 212 votes were cast, with 182 in favor of joining Puigdemont's party, 2 against the move, and 28 blank votes.
