One of the primary candidates for Catalunya en Comú (CatECP) for the 2019 European elections, Ernest Urtasun, threw his hat in the ring and spoke of having a majority in the European Parliament to have “enough strength” to keep the far-right from “assaulting” the continent’s institutions with a “new strategy.” Other candidates to run in the CatECP primaries alongside Urtasun are Joana Bregolat and Miriam Brunet.

Urtasun, currently MEP for the Initiative for Catalonia Greens (ICV) and to run in the Catalunya en Comú primaries in the Unidos Podemos Cambiar Europa list (translated as ‘Together We Can Change Europe’), urged “working together” for the forces around Europe. Urtasun also presented his candidacy with the promise that he will act “under the flag of feminism,” which he said was the best way to “fight” the far-right.
