Más Madrid, the left-wing party led by Spanish Health Minister Mónica García, has proposed that former Barcelona mayor Ada Colau lead a “collaborative and confederal” left coalition Broad Front (Front Ampli/Frente Amplio) from Catalonia in the next general election on November 29.

As the party noted in a statement, the move would represent a “historic initiative” as it assigns the candidacy for Spanish premiership in the elections to the candidate from Barcelona rather than from Madrid, as is customary.

“This proposal reflects the principles of territorial balance, generosity, and confederal operation that the various forces making up the Broad Front have been working on for months,” they point out.

Culture Minister and Comuns leader Ernest Urtasun stated on Wednesday that the parties comprising Sumar - Comuns, United Left, and Más Madrid, - are “accelerating dialogue and contacts” to form the Broad Front ticket and that the coming hours are “crucial.”

“We are moving as fast as we can,” he said, before calling for “calm” and promising that the alternative left “will do things right” to “maximize” results.

This very afternoon, United Left leader Antonio Maíllo is scheduled to convene the Extraordinary Federal Coordinating Body, the party's highest executive body for debate and leadership between assemblies, and present a political report analyzing the situation ahead of November 29.

The agenda includes a debate on an urgent resolution to adjust the recently approved schedule for internal primaries, open to IU supporters, to the new electoral deadlines.
