With the process of  forming a new Catalan government just beginning, the Ciutadans (Cs) party has rejected the idea of investing Carles Puigdemont as president at a distance and insists he must physically be present in the chamber to take office.

Although Cs got the most votes in the election on December 21, the JxCat, ERC and CUP pro-independence parties together have a majority of seats and are best placed to form a new government with Puigdemont returning as president.

However, Cs parliamentary spokesman, Carlos Carrizosa, said that his party would challenge any attempt to invest Puigdemont, currently in Brussels, from a distance, as suggested by JxCat spokesman Jordi Turull.
