Catalonia's Mediterranean climate makes it perfectly suited to winemaking, and two of the region's many vineyards were recognized this year among the world's best. The World's 50 Best Restaurants list named Catalan wineries Perelada and Gramona among the the top vineyards of 2025. Perelada was a new entry on the list this year and now ranks 22nd, with Gramona close behind at 25th.

Several other Spanish wineries made the list as well, including Bodegas Tio Pepe in the Andalusian city Jerez, Vivanco and Bodegas Ysios in Rioja, and Pago de Carraovejas in the northern wine region of Ribera del Duero.

Located between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean in the Empordà winemaking region, Perelada's vineyard is home to attractions including the Castle of Perelada and a golf course.

Around 30 kilometers south of Barcelona in the Alt Penedès county, the vineyards of Gramona are known for wines produced with the xarel·lo white grape variety specially grown in Catalonia.

Along with macabeo and parellada grapes, xarel·lo is one of the varieties traditionally used to produce the Catalan sparkling wine cava. Catalonia is home to a rich winemaking tradition and ten recognized wine regions, including Tarragona, Pla de Bages, and Penedès.

The Catalan food and wine industry was also recognized earlier this year by World's 50 Best Restaurants, when Barcelona restaurant Enigma made the list for the first time.
