Barcelona (ACN.) - A newly published book, 'Catalunya de Pel·lícula' or ‘Catalonia Movie Walks’ in English, offers 25 trails, covering 300 sites across 145 Catalan municipalities, that have together featured in over 175 films. The work aims to be a reference guide for all those tourists interested in the world of cinema, who want to learn famous Catalan destinations through thematic routes linked to films. The book, written by author Eugeni Osácar and published by the Editorial Department of the Catalan Tourism Agency, was presented on Thursday at the Palau Robert by Catalan Minister for Enterprise and Employment, Felip Puig.

In his speech, Eugeni Osácar highlighted that 'Catalunya de Pel·lícula' was a book written “with great scientific rigour” and is intended “for all audiences, not just for film buffs and connoisseurs” The author added that he hoped the work would contribute to film tourism and be incorporated into Catalonia’s tourism strategy “to become a leading destination in Europe”

For his part, the Minister Felip Puig emphasised that Catalonia’s rich variety of scenic landscapes, history, culture and symbolism render it "a great film set" Puig added: "Tourism and film are activities that promote the economic development and enrichment of our country.”

'Catalunya de Pel·lícula' is a very thoroughly researched work. Not only does it include locations from already released films, such as 'Vicky Cristina Barcelona', 'Black Bread', ‘Perfume', 'REC', 'Soldiers of Salamis' or ‘The Bourne Identity', among others, but also features films that have not yet been released, for example, ‘Mecanoscrit del Segon Origen’ It also covers all the regions of Catalonia, from the Pyrenees to the Terres de l'Ebre, to the Costa Brava, the coast of Barcelona and the Barcelona countryside.

The guide features 11 maps, accessible from phones and tablets by QR codes, and the reader can use Google Maps to track the route.  In addition, it boasts 150 spectacular photographs, combined with other little known facts of historical interest.

The book has also been published in English under the title 'Catalonia Movie Walks'. The book’s promoters are keen to reach an international audience, and to demonstrate, in an original way, how the places tourists visit are linked to their interests and hobbies.
