Berlin (CNA).- Custo Dalmau, the man behind Custo Barcelona, presented yesterday evening his new Spring-Summer collection for 2011 in the ‘Berlin Fashion Week’. The fashion week coincides with the Barcelona urban fashion fair ‘Bread&Butter’. Custo has been recognised throughout the world thanks to his colourful t-shirts. He has told CNA that having used Barcelona’s name in the brand has helped in its international projection.

Custo Dalmau states that his brand, Custo Barcelona, has benefited from the city’s great international projection. When Custo and his brother started to work in the fashion world in the early 80s, Barcelona was not so popular as it is at this moment. “I think that Barcelona was put on the map thanks to the Olympic Games of 1992. Before this event, people had doubts as to whether Barcelona was in Europe or in Antarctica”, the fashion designer said jokingly. The shining and colourful t-shirts designed by Custo have seen success all over the world. Famous artists wearing his designs have been some of his best models. Even though the t-shirts are the most well-known creations, the Catalan firm has different lines that have contributed greatly to its growth. “The t-shirts are always there”, Custo underlined, conscious of its greatest asset. The secret to always being hip is “to work very hard”, spending “a lot of hours experimenting and testing in the lab”, the designer stressed. Custo started in the fashion world after being inspired by designs from California.

The most urban Custo

Custo Barcelona has profited the Berlin showcase by presenting its new line of jeans. Although the company has several lines to show at ‘Berlin Fashion Week’ and ‘Bread&Butter’, the firm wants to foster the Custo Line, the collection that better suits Berlin style. “Here we present the most iconic part, the one for teenagers”, clarified Custo. “My new collection for Spring-Summer 2011 is inspired by the way people dress in summer music festivals”.

Loyal to his style of strong and mixed colours, Custo has come to Berlin with a collection adapted to the taste of a city that is the world’s capital of urban fashion.

Custo Barcelona has more than 70 shops in Europe, the US, Latin-America, Asia and the Middle East, apart from the shops that also sell Custo clothing. During these years, the brand has evolved, although without loosing its essence of colours and shapes that are characteristic of Custo.
