Barcelona is now home to a new 360º seafront viewpoint.

Located beside the Hotel Vela, near Sant Sebastià beach, the site is ideal for taking in views of the Mediterranean – and, in two years' time, for watching 2024 America's Cup sailing races.

"With this, we open a new street in Barcelona with views," Barcelona Port president Damià Calvet said on Thursday at the official unveiling of the €1.9M facility designed by the External Reference architecture studio and constructed by Nova Bocana.

"A street from which people will get to see, of course, the port, the Barceloneta beach area, but also Barcelona as a whole."

People will now be able to walk from Plaça Rosa dels Vents square to the beach thanks to the new viewpoint's steps and walkway.

Barcelona has thus honored the vision of recently deceased Catalan architect Ricardo Bofill, who reshaped the Catalan capital ahead of the 1992 Olympics and dreamt of opening the city up to the sea.
