Barcelona (CNA).- The internationally acclaimed pianist Maria Canals died this morning in Barcelona at her home. She was 96 years old. Canals was the founder of the pianist interpreters competition that has her name in the title. The International Music Competition Maria Canals is one of the most prestigious in the world-scene and each year brings young piano talent from all over the world to Barcelona.
Maria Canals was born in Barcelona in 1913. She studied in the Barcelona Municipal School of Music and specialised in piano. The pianist was an internationally renowned interpreter and specialised in music pedagogy.
