Barcelona (ACN).- The 12th annual Jardins de Cap Roig Festival will headline world-famous artists Sting and BB King, who will be playing for the first time in this Catalan event. Once again, music is set to become the main ingredient of summer nights in the Costa Brava towns of Palafrugell and Mont-ras. The festival, set to run from 15th July to 21st August, has unveiled its top-quality program, which includes 22 top performers, both from the local and international music scene.

Sting will kick-off the first weekend of the festival on 16 July. The English musician will take his ‘Symphonicity Tour’ to Catalonia in one of the most exciting concerts of the festival. Sting will sing some of his new songs, but also his big hits such as ‘Roxanne’, ‘Every Breath You Take’ and ‘Next to you’. “It was difficult to get him to perform in the festival”, admitted the director of Jardins de Cap Roig, Martín Pérez, but who is nonetheless “very pleased” to have him attend. Sting will play together with the Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès.

In what could be his last tour, BB King, 85, will also be playing at the festival. The legendary blues guitarist and singer, is another of the stars set to play at the Jardins de Cap Roig Festival. The 14-time Grammy award winner will play a collection of songs from across his 50 different albums.

The international list of artists also includes Roger Hodgson, exmember of Supertram. His concert in Cap Roig will be the first one he attends with his band in Spain. Hodgson is one of the most critically acclaimed musicians at the moment. He will perform songs such as ‘School’ and ‘Breakfast in America’.

But the festival stars-program does not end here. The audience will also have the opportunity to listen and see Tom Jones, who is set to close the festival. The artist will present his new album ‘Praixe & Blame’. The festival organization team has tried for 10 years to secure Tom Jones to play at the event, and they believe him to be the “ideal” artist to close this summer’s festival.

Classics

The audience at the festival will also have the pleasure to, once again, listen to some of the regular artists in Cap Roig, such as Josep Carreras and Julio Iglesias. According to the director of the festival, Martín Pérez, Catalan Carreras - considered to be one of the most famous tenors in the world - will perform a “complete recital”.

Julio Iglesias’ concert is expected to sell out very soon. The Spanish artist, who has performed in Cap Roig on three separate occasions, is one of the most famous latin musicians in the world. Spanish artists Ana Belén and Miguel Ríos are also included in the lineup.

Catalan music in Catalan language

One of the hit groups in Catalonia and Spain this year, Manel, will also perform at the festival. The band will sing songs from their new album ‘10 milles per veure una bona armadura’ (10 milles to see a good armor). This album is the first performed in Catalan language that has become a top-seller in the whole of Spain. “They are idols”, said Martín Pérez.

Mallorca-group Antònia Font, will play a selections of their best hits and songs from their new album ‘Lamperetes’. Local artist Sílvia Pérez Cruz will play together with nine other musicians, while cutting edge Theatre Company La Fura dels Baus will perform on stage with more than 200 artists.

The Catalan minister for Culture, Ferran Mascarell, praised the festival as one of the most popular in the area, and said that it was even a must-see music event for other Europeans. Mascarell said that Catalan festivals are experiencing “nice times” thanks to the determination and quality-work of their organizers.
