Barcelona (ACN).- Nominated in 15 categories and winning 13 awards, the film 'Pa Negre' has been the real winner of the Third Gaudí Awards. The film adaptation of two novels by Emili Teixidor has scooped up awards for Best Film, Best Director and Best Screenplay for Augustí Villaronga, Best Actress for Nora Navas, Best Supporting Actor and Actress for Roger Casamajor and Marina Comas, as well as more than seven minor awards. Eduard Fernández was voted Best Actor for his role in 'La Mosquitera' (The Mosquito), while 'Bicicleta, Cullera, Poma' (Bicycle, Spoon, Apple) won Best Documentary. The big disappointment at the awards show was for the movie 'Herois' (Heroes), which despite being nominated ten times, left empty handed.
'Pa Negre', the film adaptation of 'Retrat d'un assassí d'ocells' and 'Pa Negre', both novels by Emili Teixidor, has been the big winner at the Catalan cinema festival, which took place on Monday at the Theatre Artèria Paral·lel in Barcelona. The Gaudi Awards has recognised the film with 13 of its 15 nominations, making 'Pa Negre' the winner in most of the major categories. Besides being acclaimed as Best Film in Catalan of 2010, Majorcan director Agustí Villaronga has also picked up Best Director and Best Screenplay prizes.
The Catalan Film Academy's jury also awarded Best Actress to Nora Navas, who has already gained a Silver Shell at the San Sebastian Film Festival. The young actress Marina Comas has been awarded Best Supporting Actress for her role in Villaronga's film, while Roger Casamajor received the prize for Best Supporting Actor.
On top of these six main awards, Villaronga's war film has won awards for Best Cinematography by Antonio Riestra, Best Original Music by José Manuel Pagán, Best Art Director by Ana Alvargonzalez, Best Costume by Mercè Paloma, Best Sound by Dani Fontrodona, Fernando Novillo and Ricard Casals, and Best Producer for Alex Castellón.
Eduard Fernández won Best Actor for his role in the latest film by Agustí Vila, 'La Mosquitera', where he plays a middle class man stuck in his tiny world, within a complicated family. Fernández beat other nominees Ryan Reynolds ('Buried'), Jordi Mollà ('El cònsul de Sodoma) and Francesc Colomer ('Pa Negre'). This was the only award for Vila's film, which had been nominated in five categories.
