Banksy, one of the most famous street artists and political activists in recent times has had his work shared in galleries and city streets since the inception of his career. Beginning February 25th at el Espacio Trafalgar, patrons can view over 100 replicas of Banksy's most famous works, like the 'There is Always Hope' (balloon girl)  and 'Isreali-Palestinian pillow fight'

Though his identity has remained anonymous for a career that spans back to the 1990's, Banksy's cultural commentary and global presence has created a name and style that is easily recognizable worldwide. Hazis Varda, the curator of the exhibition says that the concealment of the artist's identity is,  “one of the best kept mysteries.”

Artist Approval

Interestingly enough, the gallery did not gain official approval from Banksy himself to put on the show. The recreations were put together by a team of 10 graffiti artists who also chose to remain anonymous, and wanted to contribute to the platform of his messages. The gallery displays “100% unauthorized” labels on many of the promotional materials.

Varda explains that though the original artist did not explicitly approve of this exhibition, it is typical. He shares that Banksy has stated on the internet that he “agrees with people who spread his message.”, revealing a unique nature behind street art and its propagation.

The show will be on display until May, and entrance is 12€. For ticket information and hours, visit their website
