Blanes (CNA).- The Italian pyrotechnic Santa Chiara has kicked off the 40th edition of the International Costa Brava Fireworks Festival celebrated in Blanes. At 22:30 last night, the group began to launch the first fireworks, filling the sky of the Sa Palomera beach with lights and colours. Thousands of people lined the beach to view the pyrotechnic spectacle. Balconies were also filled with families and friends watching the orchestra of fire in the sky.
Noise, light, and colours: the mixture that created the 20 minute spectacle which captivated viewers last night. For another year, the sky of the Sa Palomera beach converted itself into a centre of attraction for thousands of visitors. The Italian pyrotechnic Santa Chiara was in charge of inaugurating the 40th edition of the International Costa Brava Fireworks Festival in Blanes.

From windows, balconies, beaches and boats, spectators chose various places to look up at the sky. Many visit the festival year after year. “I have been coming here since I was 16 years old”, explained a Blanes local. “It is a family tradition”, he added.

The beginning of six days of fire

The fireworks display last night inaugurated the six-day festival where five different pyrotechnic companies will compete in order to win first place and gain world recognition in the field. This year’s companies represent the regions of Catalonia, València, and Canada.
