Carnival is under way in Catalonia, with large crowds turning out in Sitges and Torelló, despite Thursday's stormy weather.

In Sitges, the traditional arrival of King Carnestoltes marked the start of a week of parades and parties by the sea.

In Torelló, the irreverent Pullassu ritual once again filled the old town with music, costumes and revelry.

Here are some of the best images from the opening nights.
