Barcelona (ACN).- The 6th International Percussion Festival of Catalonia will take place from the 4th to the 27th of February. According to the artistic director of the festival, Josep Maria Dutra, this year boasts a very international line-up. The programme features a number of performers from Portugal, Brazil, Denmark, Norway, the United States, the Basque Country and Andalusia but very few from Catalonia. “There is a notable lack of Catalan representation”, says Dutra. The Catalan production is organised by two different companies, ‘Market Music Viva de Vic’ and the Porta Ferrada Festival. Local music students will also perform at the festival. Dutra is very clear about one thing- “This year has the most amazing line up in the history of the festival”. The main goal of the unique International Percussion Festival that is about to celebrate its sixth edition is to discover new sounds and new ideas.

Marc Ayza & DJ Helios will kick off the festival with a special performance on Friday the 4th of February at the Auditorium of Barcelona where they will launch their new album. This will be followed by eight days of percussion performances from the following artists: the Portor House of Music(who will perform gamelan), the trio Marilyn Mazur Molvaer Aarset, the Saia Drum group, Pedro Javier Gonzalez and Raul Rodriguez & Trilok Gurtu, the percussion ensemble of the School of Music of Catalonia (ESMUC), Iñaki Plaza & Ion Garmendia Santi Arisa & Youth Choir.

All concerts are held at the Auditorium of Barcelona and cost between 15 and 25 euros.
