The platform ‘Som Oci Nocturn’ (‘We Are Nightlife’) organized an open-air nightclub protest in Plaça Catalunya in Barcelona to voice their anger about not being able to open.

The first of the measures against the spread of Covid-19 will be gradually lifted on Monday, November 23, and it was originally expected that live music and nightlife venues would be able to serve customers again, but the government’s official gazette excluded them from the list of businesses that will be able to operate again.

The demonstration was made with a perimeter and access control as if it were a real night club, and with spaces compartmentalized throughout the square to ensure the separation between bubble groups.

Temperature checks were carried out on anybody looking to take part, and hand gel was dispensed by assistants.

With this, the group wants to bring visibility to the fact that they believe that can open and operate in a safe manner with all the health guarantees to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

The group fears that if the sector cannot be opened before December, between 65-75% of the companies dedicated the sector may disappear, with the consequent destruction of jobs.

“We know that night clubs can’t open,” Ramon Mas said, the secretary-general of music halls of the Barcelona province, but said that this should not be the case with live music venues that he believes can open safely.
