Friends and family who wish to visit their loved ones in care homes will be required to present proof of having been fully vaccinated or a negative antigen test as the state of the pandemic continues to worsen in Catalonia.

People who have had Covid-19 in the past three months, however, will be exempt from this requirement.

While most essential workers have been vaccinated, including almost 90% of care home workers, members of staff who have not yet been fully immunized will have PCR tests carried out on a weekly basis.

The latest Health Department and Social Services Department protocol, which applies to elderly care homes as well as centers for people with physical and or mental disabilities, also states that masks must be worn both indoors and outdoors if 1.5-meter safety distances cannot be kept.

Residents who are not yet fully vaccinated who return from outings with friends and family members are advised to have antigen tests on the day they get back as well as 5, 10 and 15 days later.
