Catalan children aged 5 to 11 start receiving their second Covid-19 vaccine dose eight weeks after being administered the first shot.

When vaccines were approved for this age group, authorities confirmed that they would only receive the next dose eight weeks after the first one, this is why the first doses were given on December 15, 2021 and the second ones have taken so long.

However, since health workers started the vaccine campaign for kids, daily figures available online, show that 41.6% of Catalan children have received one dose.

Due to the Omicron variant, officials have changed their protocol and children will only receive the second dose if they have not had Covid-19.

Vaccination figures

As of February 8, 2022, 6,469,001 residents have been given the first dose of the vaccine, 81.6% of the total population. Out of those, 5,687,539 have also been administered a second dose (71.8% of the total population). 6,194,918 residents are considered to be fully immunized (77.7%).

So far, Catalonia has administered 3,105,419 third doses (39.5%). Official data show that 44% of residents have received a booster shot (which includes those who had a third jab plus people who only got one jab in the initial vaccination series and then received a booster, their second shot).
