Week 6 of the Catalan trial started on Tuesday morning with the testimony of Felipe Martínez, the deputy secretary of the Spanish finance ministry during the 2017 crisis.

He was one of the highest-ranking officials in the department that took control of Catalonia's finances during that period, under then finance minister Cristóbal Montoro, who has already testified in the independence trial.

He was summoned to appear in court as witness last Thursday, but due to the length of the testimony of Josep Lluís Trapero, the former Catalan police chief, Martínez's hearing was postponed.

So was the appearance of David Badal, a civil servant in the Catalan labor ministry who will take the stand after the former Spanish official.

Police officers requested by prosecution

After them, seven Spanish Guardia Civil police officers will testify, with seven more taking the stand on Wednesday, and another 10 giving testimony on Thursday.

All 24 law enforcement officers are witnesses requested by either the public prosecutor or Spain's solicitor general.
