Junts per Catalunya are one of the two parties heading into this election that have led the Catalan government since the last vote in 2017. Led by Carles Puigdemont, living in exile, and with Laura Borràs as their presidential candidate, JxCat are hoping to push ahead with a "confrontational" approach to engaging with Spain over the independence question, aiming to carry out the mandate of the 2017 independence referendum
