09-Apr-21: 'Former parliament bureau member sentenced over 2017 independence push'

Joan Josep Nuet was barred from office for eight months today for enabling votes on independence in parliament in 2017. He was convicted for disobedience and will have to pay a 12,000-euro fine. Esquerra MP Joan Josep Nuet will lose his seat in the Spanish congress after the Supreme Court sentence that disqualifies him. The judges believe that the 2017 chamber bureau member consciously disobeyed Spain's courts to contribute to the independence push. Nuet said the verdict is a punishment against dialogue and politics. The number of patients in intensive care due to Covid-19 is increasing worryingly – the count has roughly grown from 400 to 500 in barely two weeks. The county-level lockdown came into force again today and will be in effect at least until April 19, but further restrictions could also be announced shortly. Female food delivery drivers have spoken out against sexual abuse. They say some customers welcome them undressed, suggest to them to enter their home, and threaten to give them a poor rating if they are not satisfied.
