UPS to set up Southern Europe operation center in Barcelona and create 400 jobs

Shipping multinational DHS will also invest €7.5 million in new facility near the Catalan capital

Two shipping multinational companies are to expand their operations in Catalonia.

American UPS is to set up in Barcelona its new Southern Europe operation center, according to information published by Catalan TV.

The new UPS facility in Barcelona is to be 60,000 square meters in size.  

UPS will be based at the Zona Franca area in the Catalan capital.

The company expects to create 400 new jobs in the city.

Meanwhile, German DHS has also announced a €7.5 million investment in a new facility in Castellbisbal, near the Catalan capital.

The new European shipping company will open summer next year and is expected to be 3,000 square meters in size.  

The new investments come after big companies from the sector such as Amazon or FedEx also expanded their operations in Catalonia.

The number of contract rents signed for logistic facilities in Catalonia have been up 74.4% during the first quarter of 2018 in comparison to the same period last year.
