Unemployment in Catalonia increased in October by 2,400 people, a rise of 0.75% and the second consecutive monthly increase.

The total number of unemployed reached 324,495, coinciding with the end of the tourist season.

When comparing with previous Octobers, this figure is 3% lower than last year and the lowest since 2007, showing that the cyclical rise in unemployment typical of October is improving year by year.

Male unemployment increased more sharply than female unemployment, although women continue to make up the majority of jobseekers.

Unemployment in Catalonia grew more sharply than the Spanish average, making it the third autonomous community with the largest increase in jobless figures, behind Castile and León and Andalusia.

In contrast, the number of active workers in Catalonia reached another all-time high for October, with 3.88 million people employed during the month.

Overall, the total number of active workers rose by more than 19,200 compared to September.

Job creation rose by 2% compared to 2024, with 80,000 new positions added.

Across Spain, active workers surpassed 21.8 million, one of the highest figures ever recorded for October.
