Tourism rises by 9% in September compared to last year

In the first 9 months of 2010, more than 10 million tourists chose Catalonia as their vacation destination. After the Balearic Islands, Catalonia is the most visited territory on Spain.

Madrid (ACN).- According to the Catalan Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce, the number of tourists choosing Catalonia as their vacation spot rose by 8.9% in September. This counts for a 3.7% increase in tourism for the first 9 months of 2010, or more than 10 million tourists. In Spain, the number of tourists last month rose by 4.2%. The total number of tourists choosing to vacation in Spain was 40 million, representing a 0.8% increase from last year. Compared with 2009, the number of French, German and Italian tourists has increased and British tourists remain the most prevalent visitors of Spain.


More than 10 million tourists chose Catalonia as their vacation spot in 2010, with 1,200,000 tourists in September alone. Just behind the Balearic Islands, Catalonia receives the largest amount of tourists. It is followed by Andalusia, the Canary Islands, the Valencian Community, Madrid, and the other autonomous communities.
