Barcelona (ACN).- Norwegian Airlines inaugurated their nonstop transoceanic flights between Barcelona and the United States this Monday. More specifically, at half past two this afternoon, the first flight connecting the Catalan capital with Los Angeles took off from the airport in Barcelona with a total of 254 passengers out of the 291 seats available on this flight. Norwegian’s Communications and Institutional Relations Manager, Alfons Claver, explained that in the coming days more than 5,000 passengers will board one of the new routes the company is offering to the United States, figures that, according to him, demonstrate “the underlying need for direct flights”. The Scandinavian airline is offering 255,000 seats between Barcelona and the United States from this Monday till the end of the winter season 2017-2018. Specifically, there will be four weekly flights to New York-Newark, three to Los Angeles and San Francisco-Oakland and two weekly flights to Miami-Fort Lauderdale.

Norwegian’s Communications and Institutional Relations Manager, Alfons Claver, explained in an interview with CNA that the company “has spotted an opportunity in Barcelona”. Emphasizing that “200,000 passengers flew between Barcelona and California last year without direct connections” and thus the Scandinavian airline thinks “there’s a market for such trips”.
