Mortgage boom in Catalonia: best first half of the year in 15 years
Anticipated house price hikes and lower interest rates fuel continued mortgage surge

Mortgage lending in Catalonia continues to rise, reaching levels not seen in the past fifteen years.
In June alone, the number of home mortgages jumped 32.2% compared to the same month last year, reaching 7,154 new contracts.
This is the highest figure for a June since 2010, when 8,390 mortgages were signed.
For the first half of the year, the total number of mortgages reached 42,135, nearly 24% more than in 2024.
This also marks the best start to a year in the past fifteen years.
The total amount of capital loaned rose to €1.3 billion, up 45% year-on-year, with the average mortgage amount reaching €182,000.
The latest data confirms an upward trend in recent months, driven by lower interest rates and expectations of rising property prices.
Across Spain, mortgage lending also surged, rising nearly 32% to a total of 41,834 new contracts.
Among Spain’s autonomous communities, Catalonia ranked second in mortgage activity, only behind Andalusia, with Madrid in third place.
