El Prat Airport registers its best October ever
3,621,777 passengers used Barcelona El Prat Airport's facilities this October, 7.5% more than in the same month last year. This figure sets a new record for El Prat, which is the second busiest airport in Spain, only beaten by Madrid Barajas. Most of the users whom passed through El Prat were international passengers, which registered a 9.1% increase compared to October 2014, while the number of national passengers rose to 3.3%. Regarding the number of operations, there were 25,349 flights in October, which represents 1% more than in the same month last year, and from January to October 248,358 operations were registered in El Prat. The number of flights to/from Latin America grew the most, by 47.5%, followed by those to/from North America (up 21%) and the Middle East (up 18.8%). Cargo transportation also grew, increasing by 15.3% and totalling 11,070 tons. In terms of cargo, routes from outside the EU saw the biggest growth, 30.6%.
Barcelona (CNA).- The number of passengers whom passed through Barcelona El Prat Airport this October grew by 7.5% in comparison to last year. According to the Spanish Airport Authority (AENA) 3,621,777 passengers used Barcelona El Prat Airport's facilities and there were 25,349 operations registered. The number of flights to/from Latin America grew the most, by 47.5%, followed by those to/from North America (21%) and the Middle East (18.8%). Cargo transportation also grew in October, increasing by 15.3% and totalling 11,070 tons. In terms of cargo, routes from outside the EU saw the biggest growth, 30.6%. The main airport in the whole of Spain continues to be Madrid Barajas, which registered 4,271,663 passengers in October.
The passenger group which grew the most was international travellers, which registered a 9.1% increase in comparison to October last year and reached 2,684,881 people. The number of national passengers grew by 3.3% and totalled 935,170. So far this year, El Prat Airport has registered 34,317,582 users, which is 5% more than same period last year.
In relation to the number of operations, there were 25,349 take-offs and landings, which represents 1% more than in the same month last year, and from January to October 248,358 operations were registered. The routes which have grown the most this month are those between the Catalan airport and Latin America (+47.5%), North America (+21%), the Middle East (+18.8%) and Asia (+15%).
Regarding cargo transportation, this has grown by 15.3% compared to October 2014 and 11,070 tons were transported in the month of October. Cargo transportations have especially increased on routes from outside the EU, which increased by 30.6%. From January to October, 95,972 tons were transported through El Prat, which is 13.5% higher than in the same period last year.
Madrid Barajas Airport is still the busiest in Spain
Barcelona El Prat is the second busiest airport in Spain, only beaten by Madrid Barajas, which tops the ranking in terms of number of passengers, operations and cargo transportation.
Madrid Barajas Airport registered 4,271,663 passengers this in October, which is 13.5% higher than for the same month last year and 650,000 more than those registered at El Prat.
32,127 landings and take-offs were registered in Madrid Barajas, which is 4.8% higher than last October. Finally, regarding cargo transportation, 35,512 tons passed through Madrid Barajas during the month of October, three times more than at El Prat Airport.
