The Catalan economy is expected to grow by 0.83% in the first quarter of 2018, while gross domestic product for Spain as a whole is set to rise by 0.77% in the same period. The estimates were made public on Thursday by AIReF, the Spanish Independent Authority for Fiscal Responsibility, which monitors budgetary stability and financial sustainability in the state.

The figures released by AIReF are an adjustment to its previous forecasts. The estimates for Catalan GDP have been raised thanks to the sustained economic growth of recent months, while those for Spain as a whole stay the same. As for the final quarter of 2017, AIReF calculates that the Catalan economy grew by 0.77%, and Spanish GDP grew 0.84%.
