The Barcelona Wine Week will be back at Fira Montjuïc in the Catalan capital for its second and "most important edition" from April 4 to 6.

Showcasing Spain's best wines from 650 wineries and over 60 appellations of origin, the trade show will focus on international sales as it will attract some 350 buyers from 40 mainly European and Latin American countries, as well as sustainability and digitalization.

The 2022 edition will be bigger than the first, held right before the pandemic hit over two years ago, with 20% more wineries and 50% more seals of quality. Both small and more established wineries and companies, such as Familia Torres, Bodegas Pinord, or Freixenet, will be taking part in it.

"We're looking at a great edition that is backed by wine companies, quality standards, and industry institutions," Barcelona Wine Week president Javier Pagés said.

"We will bring together the largest collection of fine wines in Spain with the aim of encouraging business and opening new markets, thereby helping a sector at a key time to address its great challenges and opportunities for the future," he added. Importers and chain supermarket representatives are expected to hold more than 4,000 business meetings with exhibiting wineries.

Talks and wine tasting

Around 80 experts will present a total of 30 talks with a focus on sustainability and business "aimed at enhancing the educational and sensory experiences linked to wine."

These experts include the likes of winemakers Miguel A. and Mireia Torres, sommelier Ferran Centelles, or professor of viticulture at the University of La Rioja, Fernando Martínez de Toda.

There will also be a wine bar at Fira Montjuïc with 47 local minority grape varieties such as the bruñal, caiño blanco, mizancho, moneu, garnacha peluda or tortosí.

BWW Likes the City

From April 1 to 8, the BWW Likes the City will take place at hotels, restaurants, specialty stores, and cultural centers across Barcelona.

This will see wine tasting events for both professionals and the wider wine-loving population take place in venues including the Hotel Mandarin Oriental, MOCO Museum, Bar Treze, Lapso Studios, and Restaurant Colella.
