The updated figures show that Barcelona had 4,681,748 million visitors fly through its facilities in May 2019, a 2.9% increase compared to May 2018. These numbers brought the year-to-date total to 19,715,202, which is 5.3% more than the same time last year.

Girona and Reus also registered a growth in numbers for May 2019, with Girona achieving a 1% increase compared to the same month last year with 229,318 visitors and Reus seeing a staggering 10.4% increase over the same period with 135,741 passengers.

While Reus’ year-to-date figures are, like Barcelona’s, also positive with 204,608 passengers or 4.1% more people compared to the same period last year, Girona has seen a notable decrease over the same time period: 516,468 visitors accounting for 7.8% fewer than January-May 2018.

Last year Barcelona’s airport reached its all-time highest number of visitors flying through its facilities as more than 50 million passengers took off or landed at El Prat in 2018. If this year’s positive figures continue, the airport could be set to break its 2018 record.
