Barcelona Airport: Best airport in Southern Europe for second consecutive year

Barcelona El Prat Airport has won the Best Southern Europe airport award based on 11 million passenger surveys according to which travellers were asked about access, public transportation, comfort, cleanliness or safety.

Barcelona (ACN).– Barcelona Airport has won an award for being the Best Airport in the South of Europe for the second consecutive year.  These awards granted by Skytrax in the World Airport Awards 2012, are based on almost 11 million surveys of passengers worldwide. The award was accepted by the Catalan Airport Director, Sonia Carrochano, at a reception in Vienna. The surveys assess passengers’ experiences in 39 areas such as access, public transportation, comfort, cleanliness, billing, traffic, safety, signalling or arrivals.


Barcelona El Prat Airport opened a new terminal in the summer of 2009. The new terminal, designed by Catalan architect Ricardo Bofill, increased the capacity of the airport to 55 million passengers annually.
