Pro-independence Junts and Esquerra Republicana got 14 representatives in Congress, which could be crucial to the future of the executive. Former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont and his party Junts could back Socialist Pedro Sánchez or force citizens to a second election. Meanwhile, Esquerra has already urged for an alternative to defend Catalonia and the socialists call on Junts to rise to the occasion.
