19-Jan-2024: 'President Aragonès to lead Esquerra Republicana in next Catalan elections'
Catalan president Pere Aragonès will be Esquerra Republicana’s frontrunner in the next Catalan elections, ending spevculation of a possible return to frontline politics for party president Oriol Junqueras. Junqueras is currently barred from holding public office because of his role in the 2017 independence referendum, but it was thought that with the amnesty law on its way, he may make a return. Yet, the pro-independence party has opted for the sitting president to lead their election ticket.
