15-Feb-24: 'Farmers and Catalan government agree on special drought plan'
The Catalan government and farmers have agreed on a special drought plan that will make some water restrictions more flexible, after a six-hour meeting between the climate minister and farmers representatives yesterday. The executive promises to compensate farmers up to 80% of losses suffered due to the drought restrictions, and has guaranteed access to water for cattle farmers. The deal also protects woody and perennial crops, and will restore local district offices to simplify bureaucracy.
