12-Dec-23: 'Amnesty bill debated in Spanish Congress'
The amnesty law for Catalan independence figures arrived in Congress today. Lawmakers held their first debates on the bill, but it will have to go through the Senate and Congress again before coming into effect. The conservative opposition called the prospective amnesty a disgrace and embarrassment, while the ruling Socialists said it would foster reconciliation in Catalonia.
