1-Feb-2024: 'Drought emergency declared in 202 Catalan municipalities'
The Catalan government has officially declared a drought emergency in the Ter-Llobregat system, which supplies water to 6 million people. New water restrictions will be implemented in 202 municipalities, including Barcelona and the metropolitan area. Sports facilities can water pitches with recycled water, but must take offsetting measures such as closing showers. Farmers will have to reduce irrigation by 80%.
