IN PHOTOS: Barcelona celebrates Spain's World Cup Final win over Argentina

Tens of thousands of people gathered in Barcelona on Sunday to watch the Spanish national team play in the World Cup Final in New Jersey, USA, defeating Argentina 1-0. 

A tense match came to a head in the 106th minute of extra time when Ferran Torres scored for Spain. 

The goal came while Argentina was playing with 10 men after a red card given during the second half's third minute of additional time. 

The 1-0 victory gave Spain their second World Cup win in history, after 2010.  

President hails "unforgettable" victory

The Catalan President, Salvador Illa, said that the "unforgettable" victory for the Spanish team has brought "shared joy." He also commented on the "civility" in towns and cities throughout Catalonia where the match was watched without any major incidents.

 "It is the best triumph we could have," he said.

Illa also applauded the talent of the nine Catalans on the team. 

In the Spanish squad the nine Catalan players were: Lamine Yamal, Joan Garcia, Pau Cubarsí, Eric Garcia, Dani Olmo, Víctor Muñoz, Marc Cucurella, David Raya and Marc Pubill. 

Around Barcelona, thousands of fans gathered to watch the match. Parc del Forúm hosted around 27,000 people, Plaça Catalunya held around 13,000 fans, the Arc de Triomf had around 5,000, and Plaça Espanya had around 1,000.

During the night, three people were arrested for theft, two for a mobile phone and one for a backpack.
