45th edition of Cursa del Corte Inglés gets underway in Barcelona
40,000 joined the sold-out race for a good cause

On Sunday, the 45th edition of the 10-kilometer race La Cursa del Corte Inglés got underway in Barcelona.
At 9:00 am, the race kicked off in front of the Corte Inglés department store on Avinguda Diagonal.
A total of 40,000 participants – 21% more than last year – joined the race, which moved from the starting line to Passeig de Gràcia, continued left along Carrer d’Aragó, before making its way to Gran Vía, and later Carrer Casp, towards the finish line at the central Plaça Catalunya square.
As the race progressed, an unusual stillness settled over the sunlit city. Instead of the usual car noise on the Gran Via, one of Barcelona's main arteries, there were only the rhythmic pounding of the sound of running shoes hitting the asphalt, and the cheers of onlookers, some of whom sipped their morning coffee on the go.
This year’s edition, both men and women participated, with 55% of runners who signed up for the race being between the ages of 18-35.
Some runners brought their children along, either on roller skates or running beside them. Others, of all ages, participated in wheelchairs.
For some, the race had a professional air, as they only took their eyes off the road ahead of them to glance at their smartwatches, presumably to keep up with their time. Others brought a more festive spirit, running in costumes or wigs, and taking time to wave to the cameras or spectators.
The race, like the Catalan capital, has something to offer for everyone.
Collaboration with social entity
Each year, the Corte Inglès Race partners with a social organization.
This year, the race is collaborating with Fundación Xana, founded in 2023 in Barcelona. The foundation’s mission is to support families and children affected by serious illnesses.
