17-year-old JuniorGP motorcycling athlete Pau Alsina dies in accident
Catalan rider underwent emergency surgery for a head injury that he could not overcome

Pau Alsina, the motorsports athlete from Sallent, in central Catalonia, passed away on Monday after suffering an accident on Saturday while training at the MotorLand circuit in Aragon.
Catalan president Salvador Illa lamented the "tragic accident," and called the 17-year-old Alsina "one of the great promises" of Catalan motorcycling.
According to the athlete's family, the rider was thrown from the motorcycle and hit the ground head first.
He underwent emergency surgery at Zaragoza Hospital but was unable to overcome his injuries.
The Sallent City Council has decreed a day of mourning and has called for a minute's silence in Plaça de la Vila on Tuesday at 7 pm in his honour.
Alsina had just graduated to the JuniorGP series in 2025 with the Estrella Galicia 0'0 team. He passed away while preparing for this coming weekend's GP event in Aragon, and was ranked 13th in the Championship Standings at the time of his passing.
The tragic news comes just weeks after another Spanish rider, Borja Gómez from Murcia, of the Stock class, passed away following an accident while preparing for the previous race event as part of the circuit, in Circuit de Nevers Magny-Cours in France.
Six-time MotoGP champion Marc Márquez posted his condolences to Pau Alsina in an Instagram story, writing: "No words. How unfair life is. Rest in peace, Pau."
