Woman dies in car crash involving wild boar in Ebre river delta region
N-340 crash at l’Ampolla is second fatal accident of 2026 on Catalan roads

A 30-year-old woman died on Friday evening while driving her car on N-340 road at l'Ampolla, in the Ebre river delta region, when she collided with a wild boar and the vehicle rolled over.
She was the only person in the vehicle. Four Catalan police cars, three firefighter vehicles and several medical emergency service units arrived at the scene, but they could not prevent her death, the second of the year in Catalonia's interurban road network.
The woman resided in l'Alzira, in the Valencia region, neighboring Catalonia.
The incident, which was first reported at 9.35pm, is under investigation.
Crashes with animals
In 2024, Catalonia registered 5,754 road traffic accidents involving animals –that is, 50% more than in 2019–, resulting in 294 casualties.
Over six in ten of such incidents were collisions with wild boars, and almost three in ten involved deers.
