A wildfire affecting 152 hectares of mainly forest land is burning in Baix Llobregat county, not far from Barcelona.

Around 100 people, in addition to some 20 elderly nursing home residents, have been evacuated from the area between the towns of Castellví de Rosanes and Martorell as firefighters attempt to control the blaze, while three sections of the AP-7 highway have been closed to traffic.

64 fire trucks and 13 helicopters have been sent to the scene, although firefighters do not believe they will be able to succeed in putting it out on Tuesday evening.

Firefighters have also requested that the residential areas of Can Sunyer del Palau and Valldaina be placed on lockdown and have advised residents to keep their doors and windows shut.

According to Catalonia's Civil Protection, the 112 emergency hotline has received over 500 wildfire-related calls.
