Use of Bicivia bike lanes up 21% in five years, with 75,600 daily users in 2024
Use of bicycles up 29% and scooters by 92% in Barcelona metropolitan area

Bicivia, the network of bike lanes in the metropolitan area of Barcelona, had an average of 75,600 daily users last year.
The use of the bike lane network is up 21% compared to 2019.
The most used route is the 6, which connects the Port Vell of Barcelona with Barberà del Vallès, with more than 16,300 daily users on average in 2024.
The 7, which connects Fòrum with Castelldefels, saw more than 16,000, and the 3, which runs along the coastline between Prat de Llobregat and Montgat, had almost 11,000 daily users on average.
By type of vehicle, between 2019 and 2024, there has been an increase of 29% in bicycles and 92% in personal mobility vehicles, mainly electric scooters.
According to data from the Metropolitan Area of Barcelona (AMB), despite the exponential increase in the use of electric scooters, in absolute numbers the bicycle is the most popular means of transport.
On average in 2024, there were 14,057 daily bike journies, and 6,292 on electric scooters.
Among bike users, 64% of trips were for commuting, with the remaining 36% for sports or leisure.
7 out of 10 cyclists wear helmets, while only half of scooter users do.
Regarding gender, the majority of users, 82%, are men. On bicycles, 84% correspond to men and 16% to women. On scooters, 78% are men and 22% are women.
