Unemployment falls below 8%, with lowest second quarter figure since 2008
Total number of people without work stands at 343,000, down 1.5% compared to last year

Unemployment in Catalonia dropped to below 8% in the second quarter of 2026, the lowest figure for a second quarter of any year since 2008.
The unemployment rate now stands at 7.9%. The last time Catalonia had an unemployment rate below 8% was the fourth quarter of 2024, with 7.87%.
This has been revealed by the Active Population Survey (EPA) of the National Institute of Statistics (INE), revealed on Tuesday.
The total number of unemployed people stood at 343,000 in the second quarter, 21.26% less than between January and March (92,600 less), and 1.52% less than between April and June last year (5,300 less).
The rate is down 2.22 points compared to the first quarter (10.12%) and 0.21 points below last year (8.11%).
