The CCOO trade union has warned that layoffs of Camp Nou construction workers will continue as more deadlines are met.

Workers representatives say these layoffs are taking place “without any kind of guarantees or rights” and that dismissed workers are being let go with salaries withheld

CCOO also point out that many of the workers that are expected to be laid off are undocumented migrants.

This was stated by the head of the union's Habitat federation, Carlos del Barrio, who highlighted that "as soon as the stadium is opened, these layoffs from various companies will increase."

The comments were made at a protest outside FC Barcelona's home stadium still under construction on Wednesday morning. Around 30 of these irregular workers demonstrated at the complex.

Barça face Athletic Club this Saturday for their first game at the Camp Nou in more than two years. The club also announced on Wednesday morning that they will play their next Champions League game on December 9 against Eintracht Frankfurt in their iconic home.

Del Barrio calculates that so far around 50 employees of Ekstrem Works, the company subcontracted by Limak, have been let go ahead of the opening of the stadium this weekend.

Limak is the construction company in charge of carrying out the building work.
