Two people linked to Girona fatal shooting in June surrender to police
Men arrested, aged 23 and 26, did not fire AK-47 on Sant Joan's Eve
Two men, aged 23 and 26, linked to the fatal shooting in Girona on Sant Joan's Eve (June 23), surrendered to Mossos d'Esquadra police on Tuesday.
The police arrested both men in the northern municipality of Figueres, although neither fired the AK-47 rifle on the night in question, which left a man and a woman dead and two others injured in Girona's Font de la Pólvora neighborhood.
The two men are brothers-in-law of the alleged perpetrator, who remains at large.
The investigation is ongoing as the police work to identify and locate more individuals linked to the fatal shooting.
A few days after the incident, law enforcement agents found the car of the alleged perpetrator burned in Mont-ras, a municipality in the Baix Empordà county, and the weapon.
The shooting triggered several violent attacks across Girona, and in other nearby municipalities, including Figueres' Sant Joan neighborhood, where properties linked to the alleged perpetrator were set on fire.
From July 26 to August 1, police arrested nine people, aged between 34 and 55, for their involvement in the attacks and for public disorder. Two of them were allegedly part of the incidents at Girona's Josep Trueta hospital on Sant Joan's Eve. Following the shooting, dozens of people attempted to enter the hospital and injured two law enforcement officers.
