Turtle lays 80 eggs on Platja d'Aro beach
Second nest in Costa Brava this summer, and first ever in town

A sea turtle has laid 80 eggs on the Platja Gran beach in Platja d'Aro, in the Costa Brava.
This is the first time ever that a turtle nest has been located in the town of Platja d'Aro, and the second nest in the Costa Brava area this summer.
The turtle laid its eggs on Friday night, and after experts observed the turtle and its intention to nest, they activated all protocols and warned animal protection services.
The nest is now part of an enclosed area on the beach. Volunteers will control it and take care of the eggs until they hatch.
Officials are urging residents and visitors to respect the premises.

If civilians find a turtle on the beach, experts urge not to touch, point a torch at, nor annoy it. Those who have discovered the animal should call 112 emergency hotline and not erase the path the turtle followed.
The CRAM sealife rescue foundation supervises the premises and is looking for volunteers to patrol them. Those interested can join the volunteering list on the CRAM website.
Platja d'Aro already saw a turtle on the beach in 2021, but it did not lay eggs.
The first nest of the 2025 season is in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, a nearby town of Platja d'Aro.
